How to choose a fast fuse for a three-phase motor?

How to choose fast fuse? Should we choose directly according to the rated current of the loop, or should we consider the influence of the starting current? For example, it is a 160KW motor, and a fast fuse (rated current 700A) is added in front of the soft start. Will the fast fuse be burned out when starting?

The fuse generally has several commonly used models such as gG/L, gR, gS; aR, aM, among which:

The first letter g: means full range protection, which can protect both short circuit and overload.

a: Local range protection means that it can only protect short circuits, not overloads. Overcurrent will not cause the fuse to blow. It is mostly used in situations that require the ability to withstand short-term current increases, such as motor startup.

The second letter reflects the protected object

G/L: General line protection.

R: Semiconductor component protection, faster fusing speed, commonly known as "fast melting".

S: Generally used in the secondary circuit, used for the protection of the entire circuit system. There are semiconductor components in the system as well as other components, and the fusing speed is between gG/L and gR.

M: Motor protection. For example, aM is specially used for motor protection. Its characteristic is that the fuse will not blow when the current is large at the moment of starting the motor.

So, according to the above, you should choose aR type fuse
